公開当時、庵野監督が本格的な実写映画に初挑戦したことが話題を呼び、今なお伝説として語り継がれている要注目作。村上龍が当時“コギャル”と呼ばれた女子高校生たちを取材して書き上げた小説を原作に、庵野監督は“援助交際”というセンセーショナルなテーマに挑んだ。デジタルビデオカメラを駆使して撮影したのがユニークで、渋谷や原宿の雑踏を駆け抜ける女子高校生たちの感覚に肉薄し、庵野ワールドの“次世紀”到来を予感させた。当時フレッシュだった新人女優たち、仲間由紀恵らや人気男優・浅野忠信らが競演。 裕美は今時の女子高生。いわゆるコギャルだ。夏休みを控えたある日、彼女は仲間の知佐、奈緒、千恵子と一緒に渋谷へ水着を買いに出かけた。ところが、そこで見つけたトパーズの指輪が欲しくてたまらなくなった彼女は、他の3人の協力を得て、デパートの閉店時間までにその代金をエンコーでゲットすることになる。やりたいことや欲しい物は、思ったときに始めたり手に入れたいしないとダメなのだ。しかし、カラオケボックスでマスカットを噛んで欲しいというオヤジや、一緒にレンタルビデオ屋に行って欲しいという変態入った青年などなど、ひどい体験ばかり。しまいには、キャプテン××のぬいぐるみと話すちょっと変わった青年と入ったラブホで、彼に暴力をふるわれ深く傷ついてしまう。結局、デパートの閉店時間に間に合わず、指輪を買うことはできなかった。しかし、家に帰った裕美は、ちょっぴり大人になっていた。
